Certified EKG Technician
EKG or cardiographic technicians specialize in electrocardiograms (EKG’s), stress testing and Holter monitors. Employment of EKG technologists and technicians is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2012. Cardiovascular technicians, who specialize in electrocardiograms (EKGs), stress testing, and Holter monitors are known as cardiographic, or EKG technicians. An EKG test is done before most kinds of surgery or as part of a routine physical examination. This certificate program includes 85 hours of classroom & lab instruction followed by a 40 hour internship where the student will get the opportunity to further develop these critical workplace skills. Courses included in the program are Introduction to EKG and Healthcare, Medical Law and Ethics, Asepsis and Infection Control, Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Terminology, CPR and First Aid, EKG Theory & Practice, Occupational Communication. This course prepares you to sit for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) exam. The CET is a national credential for the EKG Technician profession. Certification through the National Healthcareer Association recognizes the competency and proficiency of a clinical individual and is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
